We cordially invite you to join the 11th International Symposium of East Asia Fisheries and Technologist Association (EAFTA). The theme of this year’s symposium is: “Harmony in Blue Frontiers: Advancing the Sustainability, Efficiency, and Resiliency of Aquatic Product Safety, Processing, and Biotechnology”. The 11th EAFTA 2024, which will be held on September 3-5, 2024, is organized by the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences at IPB University.

EAFTA 11th 2024 was initiated to provide an open forum for the introduction and discussion of the most current status of innovative scientific and technological achievements in interdisciplinary fields such as Fisheries Product Technology, Food Processing and Utilization of Marine Resources, Biofunctional Compounds in Marine Resources, Food Safety and Hygiene, Seafood Nutrition, and Fisheries Product Education throughout East Asia, over a decade.

Important Information

After the successful the 10th EAFTA Symposium in Japan, we are thrilled to announce the Call for Abstracts for the upcoming EAFTA Symposium 2024 in Indonesia—an event dedicated to providing an academic platform for Asian Seafood Science and Technology.

We invite researchers, academics, and professionals to submit their abstracts for presentation. Selected abstracts will undergo thorough review for potential inclusion in a Scopus-indexed journal.

Dr. Vivi Yulaswati, M.Sc

Deputy for Maritime Affairs and Natural Resources and National (BAPPENAS)

Dr. Vivi Yulaswati, M.Sc, currently serves as the Deputy for Maritime Affairs and Natural Resources. She is an esteemed figure in her field, bringing a wealth of expertise and experience to her role. With a Master of Science degree, Dr. Yulaswati is deeply committed to the exploration and management of maritime resources. Her dedication to this area has made her a respected authority, contributing significantly to the advancement of maritime affairs and natural resource management. Through her leadership, she continues to drive initiatives that promote sustainable practices and ensure the responsible utilization of our valuable natural resources for future generations.

Prof. Shugo Watabe
Kitasato University-School of Marine Bioscience
He serves as a Professor of Marine Biochemistry at Kitasato University School of Marine Biosciences and holds the title of Professor Emeritus at the University of Tokyo. With a focus on various facets of marine organisms, his research spans food science, muscle biochemistry, development, marine metagenomics, and biomineralization. Actively involved in Japan’s academic community, he holds positions such as Director of The Foundation of Agricultural Sciences of Japan and Member of the Science Council of Japan. He obtained his undergraduate degree from the University of Tokyo’s Faculty of Agriculture in 1971 and completed his Ph.D. in Agriculture there in 1976. Following roles as Assistant and Associate Professor until 1994, He led his lab as a Professor at the University of Tokyo until 2012. Upon retirement, He joined Kitasato University, where He continues to serve as Professor.
Prof. Soottawat Benjakul
International Center of Excellence in Seafood Science and Innovation-Prince of Songkla Unversity (ICESSI-PSU)
He earned his Ph.D. from Oregon State University and currently holds positions in the Department of Food Science and Technology and as Director of the International Center of Excellence in Seafood Science and Innovation (ICE-SSI) at Prince of Songkla University. Specializing in Seafood Chemistry and Biochemistry, he focuses on transforming seafood processing by-products into high-value products. His achievements include recognition in The American Biographical Institute’s 500 Leaders of Science, as well as awards such as Outstanding Scientist of Thailand, Distinguished Research Professor of Thailand, Thomson Reuters Highly Cited Researcher, Ajinomoto Award, and Tanner Award from the Institute of Food Technologists.
Rajendra Aryal

Country Director for Indonesia and Timor Leste; Liaison Official for ASEAN, Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO)

  • Rajendra Aryal is appointed as FAO Representative in Indonesia in mid-August 2021. Prior to his current appointment, he was FAO Representative in Afghanistan for three years; and he was the Senior Programme Advisor for Resilience Building in FAO Emergency Operations Division in Rome, Italy from 2015 to September 2018. Since mid-March 2003, he has held various positions within the Food and Agriculture Organizations of the United Nations (FAO), such as senior programme advisor for global Food Security Cluster (gFSC) in Italy; Senior Resilience Manager for Eastern Europe in Serbia; Deputy Representative in South Sudan; Senior Resilience Coordinator in Pakistan; Senior Regional Recovery Coordinator for Asia in Thailand; Representative a.i., in Sri Lanka and Maldives, and the Philippines; Senior Rehabilitation and Recovery Coordinator in Indonesia; Recovery Coordinator in Bangladesh, and Area Manager in Afghanistan.
  • Mr. Aryal also worked as Programme Officer with UNCDF/UNDP and German Technical Cooperation (GIZ). He has around 28 years of work experience that also includes his experience with public and private sectors.
  • He holds a Master’s degree in Civil Engineering from Leibnitz University, Hannover, Germany, and a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from National Institute of Technology, Trichy, India
Colette Wabnitz, P.hD

Stanford Center for Ocean Solutions

She is a dedicated interdisciplinary marine scientist with a keen interest in comprehending the responses of socio-ecological systems to changes and collaboratively crafting strategies to enhance resilience in an equitable and sustainable manner. Leveraging more than 15 years of global experience, she has concentrated on mitigating biodiversity risks and fostering positive outcomes across sustainability’s three dimensions: societal, economic, and environmental. Her expertise encompasses various domains such as small-scale fisheries management, climate change adaptation, food and nutritional security, ecosystem-based policy approaches, combating illegal fishing and forced labor, sustainable development, and promoting equity, particularly within developing economies.

Prof. Hui Hong
China Agricultural University

Dr. Hong, an accomplished figure in the field of Engineering at China Agricultural University, holds the position of deputy director in the Department of Food Nutrition and Safety. Recognized as an “Outstanding Talent” by the university, his academic journey encompasses international experiences, including a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Alberta, Canada, within the Department of Agricultural, Food & Nutritional Science. He obtained a joint Ph.D. from China Agricultural University and Cornell University, USA, reflecting his commitment to excellence and collaboration across borders.

Prof. Dr. Mala Nurilmala, S.Pi., M.Si

Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Science, IPB University

She is a committed professional associated with the Aquatic Products Technology Department at Bogor Agricultural University. Proficient in proteins, DNA, amino acids, proteomics, and molecular biochemistry, she makes significant contributions to this field. Additionally, she holds the position of Vice Dean for Resources, Cooperation, and Development at the Faculty of Fisheries and Marine Sciences. Through her leadership and expertise, she enhances academic programs, research activities, and partnerships, driving progress in fisheries and marine sciences. Mala Nurilmala’s dedication to excellence and innovation underscores her commitment to shaping the future of education and research in these fields.

The abstract submission for EAFTA 11th 2024 is open until the deadline on July 29, 2024. The submission of full papers will be open until the deadline on Agustus 5 2024. The selected manuscripts will be published in reputable journals and proceedings indexed by Scopus.
